Facilitate Advocacy and Raise Awareness

The Academy must educate the public and policymakers about hospice and palliative care if we are to increase utilization, protect and expand access, and advance sound public policy. AAHPM seeks to expand its advocacy infrastructure, prepare and activate members, and engage consumers. Key initiatives would focus on:

• Providing the tools and training that members require to be effective advocates for their patients and their practice

• Developing a grassroots network that can bring stories of hospice and palliative care directly to policymakers

• Engaging the media on issues related to hospice and palliative care

• Expanding public awareness through consumer-directed resources, including via print, web, and social media
