Research Scholars ProgramAwardeesConsistent with its strategic goal of promoting evidence-based research by supporting increased funding for research and training and providing opportunities for networking and knowledge transfer among researchers, AAHPM offers the Research Scholars Program which facilitates participation for U.S. based AAHPM members to attend the Annual Kathleen M. Foley Palliative Care Retreat and Research Symposium of the National Palliative Care Research Center (NPCRC), co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and AAHPM. The goal of the Retreat is to advance the scientific endeavors of those who are or will become independent investigators actively involved in palliative care research through development of attendees' individual works in progress and improvement of specific competencies and core methodologies essential to conducting palliative care research. The meeting format will include didactic lectures, small group discussion by topic area and/or discipline, mock study sections, poster presentations, and networking opportunities. Recipients of the award will be expected to be present for the entire retreat and complete progress updates at 6 months and 12 months following the retreat. Nursing applicants will be referred to the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association's Research Scholars Program; visit hpna.org for more information. Participants in the Retreat, scheduled for October 22-24, 2013 in Sausalito, California, will include AAHPM Retreat Scholars, as well as recipients of National Palliative Care Research Center Pilot/Exploratory Grants and Career Development Awards and recipients of American Cancer Society Palliative Care Pilot/Exploratory Grant Awards.
