Why has prognosis has been relegated to the subjective level as a term of art and individual skill when the science has been available? The book review segment in the March 2010 JPSM (Cripe/Glare/Chirstakis) once more continues to miss more than two-hundred independent global publications that have demonstrated phase angle as determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis as an accurate and objective tool that works across disease states. It is not based upon any statistical or mathematical manipulation but a snapshot of the cell membrane level of physiology which detects the presence, severity and progression of any disease, the effectiveness of any treatment and the timing of non-acute death in any patient. The electrical illustration of cell membranes provides reliable and valuable findings that add immeasurably to any clinicians decision dataset. It is the catalyst of end-of-life discussions, treatment choice and resource allocation. A noninvasive study, that requires minimal compliance or cost yet provides objective findings available from the cell membrane level of the hierarchy of physiology (which occurs prior to the levels the rest of our patient finding come from). The data await, no harm; the foul not using an available resource.
