Annual Assembly of AAHPM and HPNA - (March 3-6, 2010, Boston, MA)

What's New This Year?

Plan to attend the premier educational event for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare providers who care for patients with serious or life-threatening conditions. Learn the latest in hospice and palliative care from leading experts in the field.

  • Rounding with the Stars returns! These 1-hour interactive, interdisciplinary, clinical, case-based discussions facilitated by two interdisciplinary leaders in hospice and palliative care premiered in 2009. The learning sessions involve one or more case scenarios presented for discussion. The goal is to facilitate active learning through audience participation and dialogue. Rounding with the Stars was developed to stimulate interdisciplinary interaction that helps achieve patient and family goals of care. Each participant is a star in the constellation of whole-person care.

  • Increased pediatric session options are available throughout the meeting. If you specialize in pediatric care or care for younger patients on occasion, there is something for you. Take this opportunity to develop your knowledge and competence in this vital area of hospice and palliative care.

  • We extend a special welcome to medical and nursing students with our new student forums. These forums are designed to introduce the specialties of hospice and palliative medicine and nursing to students, who are invited to special sessions on Saturday, March 6, to hear leaders in the field share their varied experiences and vision for the future. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

  • Join your colleagues for a Book Club discussion. The Humanities SIG is sponsoring this informal gathering on Saturday, March 6, from 12:15-1:15 pm. You are invited to read Drew Gilpin Faust's This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War (Knopf, 2008) and share in a facilitated discussion. Preregistration is not required.

  • The Annual Assembly is expanding. There are additional workshops and concurrent sessions available for attendees in 2010-more than ever before. Enjoy the enhanced variety and be sure to purchase the recordings of the sessions you missed. You may purchase these high-quality audio recordings at the vendor located near the registration desk. Flash drives of handouts provided by presenters will be available for purchase at the AAHPM Resource Center in the Exhibit Hall and at the Registration Desk on the last day of the conference.

  • A quiet place will be available for attendees wanting to take time to reflect, meditate, or journal. Located near the rotunda, this convenient and comfortable room will offer you a quiet place to contribute to a community journal or take time for self care in a way that works best for you.

  • Help support expanded green initiatives, including online registration, optional tote bags, an online program book and speaker handouts, name-badgeholder recycling, food-waste reduction, donation of unused materials to local communities, and more. AAHPM and HPNA are taking steps in a greener direction to reduce our carbon footprint and tread lightly on the earth we all share.
