Special Events
Connect with Your Community
The AAHPM & HPNA Annual Assembly provides a unique opportunity for face-to-face networking, discussion, and education for special interest groups (SIGs) and other communities. Plan to participate in extended SIG meetings to learn more about new opportunities and initiatives for 2010. Also plan to attend one of the nine SIG Symposia on Thursday, March 4, from 2:45-3:45 pm, where issues of particular relevance to a special interest will be highlighted.
Job Fair
Visit the AAHPM & HPNA job fair, located in the exhibit hall, Thursday, March 4, from 5-7:15 pm. This is a great opportunity to find out about available opportunities in the field of hospice and palliative medicine. If you are interested in having a recruitment booth during the job fair, please contact Randi Romanek at 847/375-4848 or rromanek@connect2amc.com.
Service of Remembrance and Celebration
Our commitment to serve the seriously ill and dying draws us into a singular community of mutual support. In the Service of Remembrance and Celebration we offer a sacred space in which we can honor our stories, losses, and growth as a community. Together, as a community of those who care for seriously ill patients, we can find renewal in our call to serve. We invite the hospice and palliative care community to a nonsectarian ceremony on Friday, March 5, at 6 pm. Christina Puchalski, MD FACP, founder and director of the George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, DC, will be our featured speaker.
Book Club Discussion
Join your colleagues for an engaging book club discussion on Saturday, March 6, from 12:15-1:15 pm, sponsored by the Humanities SIG. The featured book is This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War by Drew Gilpin Faust. Order your book now from www.amazon.com or obtain a copy at your local library. Don't miss this opportunity to network with your colleagues. Preregistration is not required. Look for more details coming soon.
PDIA Award Presentations & Lectures
Please join us as we honor and celebrate this year's prestigious PDIA Leadership Award winners. Each winner will be presented with his or her award and will speak on his or her specific topic of expertise during the breakfasts. This is an exciting opportunity to hear and be inspired by leaders in hospice and palliative care. Continuing education credits will be available for these breakfast sessions. Coffee and morning snacks will be served.
NBCHPN® Certification Luncheon
If you are currently certified by NBCHPN® or are interested in certification and would like to attend the Certification Recognition Luncheon on Thursday, March 4, you must register through the National Office at 412/787-1057 or through the NBCHPN® Web site, http://www.nbchpn.org/, on or before February 5, 2010. Seating is limited.
Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation
The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation (HPNF) presents a variety of special events each year in conjunction with the AAHPM & HPNA Annual Assembly. The face-to-face opportunity has been an increasingly productive fundraising time for the foundation thanks to Assembly attendees. Money raised at the Annual Assembly helps HPNF provide scholarships to nurses for career advancement, grants for nursing research, and awards to nurses who are exemplary in clinical practice, education, or research responsibilities. Please visit the HPNF booth near the registration desk to creatively contribute financial support to hospice and palliative nursing.
