This webinar will enable participants to:
- Describe how the prognostic indicators were determined and examine their accuracy in predicting prognosis. Identify some of the triggers for chart audits by the MACs.
- Understand the four common pathways to death and identify the common denominators to decline which are universal, despite diagnosis.
- Improve prognostication skills by disease category.
- Explain the importance of documenting prognosis for certification and recertification notes.
Prognostication is both an art and science, and learning the necessary skills to predict life expectancy is critical to determining hospice eligibility. This presentation discusses the four pathways to death and the role of nutritional, cognitive and functional status contributing to decline.
The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
