Hearst Foundations Fellowship Grant ProgramGrant ProgramThe American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine has been awarded a $1.2 million grant by the Hearst Foundations Aging Initiative. The funding will be used to partially support accredited fellowship training programs in hospice and palliative medicine focused on training physicians interested in caring for the aging and becoming mentors, educators and role models. Funding will be provided over a three-year period and begin with the 2012 academic year. Over the course of three years, 30 awards of $37,750 will be given to hospice & palliative medicine fellowship training programs; this initiative is not open to individual applicants. Each program’s sponsoring institution must demonstrate a commitment to secure matching funds. The goal set forth by the Hearst Foundations Aging Initiative Grant Program is to support thirty fellows who will be among the next generation of leaders who will integrate palliative care into the training of students and residents as they prepare for careers as internists, family physicians, surgeons, and other physician specialists largely responsible for caring for an expanding population of older adults. ApplicationsFellowship programs must be accredited by either the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) at the time of application. Accredited fellowship programs will need to submit completed applications to AAHPM: The application cycle for 2011 and 2012 has closed. The next application cycle for twelve (12) new awards will be open to all accredited fellowship programs in the summer of 2013 for the 2014 fellowship year.
