Fellowship Program Summit

Fellowship Summit – Looking Ahead.

The original goal of the Fellowship Summit was to support hospice and palliative medicine programs during the initial accreditation cycles of ACGME and the AOA Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists following the recognition of the specialty in 2006. Since that time, more than 80 programs have been accredited and there are more under development.

While the need continues for support of fellowship programs, directors and coordinators, and fellows-in training, AAHPM plans to spend time assessing next steps for this educational program and others.  The Board of Directors is being asked to spend resources in 2012 for a learner needs assessment.  We expect this assessment to inform the education and leadership programming going forward for many of the Academy’s constituency groups.

The Academy will consider the needs of this program and others during this year of assessment and planning. The Fellowship Directors Forum SIG will continue to be a source for networking and information exchange.
