Fellowship Programs

Funding

Funding for fellowship programs is a significant need. Both GME funding and philanthropic sources are possible solutions. The resources below are intended to provide information about funding for fellowship directors.

Grant Funding Awarded

AAHPM is pleased to announce the awardees for the $70,000 Wyeth grant given to support hospice and palliative care fellowship training programs. Two selected programs will each receive $35,000 for the 2010 academic year; one to a new or developing program and one to an established/ACGME accredited program.

The University of Chicago was awarded $35,000 as the new or developing program and Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center/Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron was awarded $35,000 as the established/ACGME accredited program.

The goals of this fellowship award program were to support the training of physicians in the principles and practice of hospice & palliative medicine and to help increase the number of palliative medicine fellowship training programs. Ultimately, the goal is to improve the care of patients with life-threatening or serious conditions.

Each award will be used to support the clinical, teaching and research training of hospice & palliative medicine fellows. Each program’s sponsoring institution demonstrated a commitment to secure matching funds in the hopes of promoting a sustainable fellowship slot for future years.

AAHPM thanks Wyeth for their generous grant, the Fellowship Task Force for their thorough review process and congratulates both programs on their award.
