Fellowship Program Summit
Program Overview
Program Directors and coordinators of hospice and palliative medicine fellowship programs will acquire better tools needed to develop or improve an existing core curriculum and implement the core competencies of an HPM training program. Participants will also gain knowledge on leadership skills, funding opportunities outside the GME structure, and strengthening required rotations. An opportunity for networking and discussing ideas with colleagues will take place during a reception on the first evening of the event.
The 5th annual Fellowship Program Summit will be held September 20-21, 2010 in Atlanta, GA. This event is designed for both established program directors and coordinators or those developing a fellowship program in hospice & palliative medicine.
Faculty will include senior practitioners who have successfully navigated the ACGME accreditation process and experts in leadership development skill building. Continuing Medical Education credits (CME) will be provided for physicians who attend the event and complete an evaluation form.

Course Objectives
The purpose of this program is to bring hospice and palliative medicine fellowship directors and coordinators together to strengthen interdisciplinary faculty development, program evaluation, scholarly activities and curriculum development.
Attendees will leave being able to:
- Identify the major components of a hospice and palliative medicine training program.
- Design ways in which to foster fellow education based on the six ACGME general competencies: patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, systems based practice and professionalism.
- Review and assess satisfactory attainment of the core competencies of hospice and palliative medicine.
- Develop core curriculum that will encompass the core competencies identified above.
- Discuss strategies for providing feedback and evaluation to fellows to enhance their learning experience.
- Address the importance of self-care and awareness with fellow program directors and exchange ideas about how to implement a self care program.
- Discuss ways in which fellow may develop and implement scholarly projects.
- Outline major issues related to ERAS and NRMP.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the goals and objectives of ACGME.

Schedule
The 2010 Summit will be a two day event beginning mid-day on Monday, September 20 and ending mid-day on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.

In accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education's Standards for Commercial Support, all CME providers are required to disclose to the activity audience the relevant financial relationships of the planners, teachers, and authors involved in the development of CME content. Continuing Education Credit
PhysiciansThe American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. AAHPM will designate the 2010 Fellowship Program Summit once the program has been finalized. Each physician should claim only those credits commensurate to the time that he/she actually spent in the activity.
Osteopathic physicians may submit verification of attendance with the AOA for credits.
Getting There
Hotel InformationHotel registration will open in Spring 2010. A discounted rate of $139.00 plus tax per room night has been secured.
Cancellations
All cancellations must be made in writing. A $50 processing fee will apply to all cancellations. No refunds will be made on cancellations postmarked after the deadline. All refunds will be processed after the summit. AAHPM reserves the right to substitute faculty or to cancel or reschedule a course due to low enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. If AAHPM must cancel, registrants will receive full credit or refund of their paid registration fee. No refunds can be made for lodging, airfare, or any other related expenses.
