JobmartHospice and Palliative Medicine PhysicianUnique full-time opportunity for a Hospice and Palliative Medicine physician to provide care in a new 24-bed acute adult inpatient facility and to assist in developing a comprehensive palliative care program. The facility: Opened in July 2006, Collier Hospice Center is Colorado’s only freestanding facility specifically designed to provide inpatient end-of-life care. Collier is located on the campus of Exempla Lutheran Medical Center, a 400-bed not-for-profit “Top 100 Hospital” in Wheat Ridge, Colorado only minutes away from Denver, mountain recreation, collegiate and national sports and abundant cultural venues. The program: Accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by Medicare and licensed by the State of Colorado, Exempla Lutheran Hospice at Collier Hospice Center is a department of Exempla Lutheran Medical Center. The growing program has served the community since 1985 providing both home hospice care and inpatient care, with a staff of 100 serving over 1500 patients in 2007. The opportunity: Clinical role at Collier Hospice Center will include attending responsibility for unassigned patients; daily rounds with Hospice team (including a Physician Assistant with extensive experience and training in hospice and palliative care) on all acute-status inpatients; consultative services as requested by other physicians admitting to the facility; and active participation in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings. Non-clinical opportunities include staff education, professional and community outreach, and working with the Hospice Program Director and Medical Director to develop a comprehensive palliative care program to serve the needs of both the affiliated hospital and the home-care program. Strongly preferred credentials: Fellowship training in an AAHPM approved (or ACGME-eligible) program; certification by the ABHPM Minimum requirements: MD/DO degree from an accredited institution; licensure/eligibility for unrestricted medical practice in Colorado; unrestricted DEA provider registration; post-graduate training and certification in a primary field recognized by the ABMS; proven clinical experience and competence in both hospice care and palliative medicine; commitment to a team approach, including teaching of allied and mid-level practitioners; superior interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
