Palliative Care Physician

Jackson Hospital, Montgomery, Alabama, is seeking an enthusiastic palliative care physician to join our Palliative Care Team.  Our Palliative Care Program is a consult service which began in late 2004; the original medical director (who has become Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine) is still the only physician member of the team, but the program has grown so that now two physicians are needed.  The team includes a full-time RN, social worker, chaplain, and Physician Assistant; we anticipate also hiring a Nurse Practitioner.  We will soon have a Virtual Palliative Care inpatient unit.  We have developed excellent relationships with all subspecialties here; we are very actively involved within our ICU and our oncology ward.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Extensive experience in managing critically ill and terminally ill patients;
• Expertise in pain and symptom management;
• Palliative Care fellowship training (preferred);
• Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (preferred; required within 2 years of starting employment.) 

The candidate must be a team player, have excellent communication skills, able to work collaboratively with attending physicians.
