ForumAdvanced Lung Disease ForumPurposeThe "Advanced Lung Disease" Forum targets patients and families suffering from severe obstructive chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension and advanced restrictive lung disease, including cystic fibrosis. These diseases are associated with significant systemic and respiratory symptom burden including those related to shortness of breath, weight loss; "total "pain and suffering (both physical and existential ). There is also a substantial economic impact to patients, families and health care institutions estimated to be in the tens of billions of dollars. The purpose of this community is to facilitate the improvement of health care delivery for patients and families suffering from these diseases. Specifically this community would aim to enhance symptom management for this population, be involved in implantation of guidelines associated with prognostication ( such as current GOLD and BODE guidelines ) , increase the awareness and completion rate of advance care directives and increase utilization of hospice and palliative care resources. In addition, the group encourages research as well as examine cost and quality measures.
