Psychiatry and Psychosocial Care

Purpose

Of the eight domains of patient and family care that need attending to, as defined by Frank Ferris, 7 are psychiatric and psychosocial in nature. Psychosocial and spiritual care make up the bulk of the care provided in hospice and palliative care settings. In addition, patients and families overwhelmingly name psychosocial issues as of most concern at the end-of-life. The purpose of this Forum is to provide a community for all mental health and spiritual care providers to:

1. provide education to the AAHPM community about these important issues
2. allow for interfacing and synergy among the psychosocial care providers
3. promote the field to other psychosocial care providers
4. assist with navigating the role of providing psychosocial care in hospice and palliative care settings
