PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS

Purpose

The Physician Assistants model of practice is consistent with the AAHPM mission statement by expanding access to palliative and hospice care in underserved and rural environments. PA’s help alleviate the workforce shortage in this area by serving as physician extenders. The PA's scope of practice includes pain and symptom management, facilitation of family meetings to establish goals of care, providing guidance to patients and their families with complex treatment choices, and coordination with other health care providers.
